Media Research and Monitoring division
Follow-up evaluations of research and media professionalism are made by the Department of Government Information on the goal of building a core, quality media culture in the country and the role of national development and the mission played pertaining to delivering the development process of the government efficiently and effectively as the official news communicator and conducting surveys and researches on mass media, social media and citizen media in Sri Lanka in order to popularize media literacy and create a Sri Lankan society with enlightened imagination.

Role
Evaluation, monitoring and conducting research relevant to the overall role played by journalists and providing information to the government on conduct of media and report in that respect.

School Media Club promotional Unit which was introduced in the Year 2000 by the Ministry of Education and NATIONAL Education Unit, has assisted and guided through the updating to create an intelligent, conscious and critical generation of students for promotion of media literacy and communication effectively and efficiently in the school community

Foreign Media Relation Unit
The role of this unit is to provide correct information to the world community (international organizations, international institutions) for the achievement of Sri Lankan identity and national objectives internationally and the development of the Sri Lankan national image, to make aware the Sri Lankan community living in foreign countries locally and internationally about the people’s mission carried out through Sri Lanka's foreign embassies, and the development of the quality of the international community about Sri Lanka's international cooperation.
